WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Brian Jack (GA-03) has secured a $3 million federal investment in the City of Thomaston’s Pedestrian Safety Downtown Redesign Project through the federal government’s Community Development Fund to address critical pedestrian safety concerns in Downtown Thomaston.

On February 3, 2026, President Trump signed into law H.R.7148 - Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026.  Through this legislation, Congressman Brian Jack worked with President Trump to deliver a $3 million investment in Upson County for the City of Thomaston’s Pedestrian Safety Downtown Redesign Project.

In 2023, the City of Thomaston partnered with the University of Georgia College of Engineering to develop a 10-block plan to address infrastructure and safety challenges around its downtown core.

Nearly 16,000 vehicles per day drive through the Upson County Courthouse square via U.S. Highway 19, and Georgia State Routes 36 and 74.

Congressman Brian Jack said, “I am honored to deliver a $3 million federal investment in safety improvements to Downtown Thomaston for the incredible people of Upson County.  Mayor Stallings, Director Smith, and Chairman Brue were instrumental in this success, and I am grateful for President Trump’s support of our efforts to keep Thomaston safe, secure and open for business.”

Thomaston Mayor J.D. Stallings said, “The City of Thomaston is incredibly grateful for Congressman Brian Jack.  Before he was elected, Brian Jack visited Thomaston more than any other candidate, and promised to make our community safer in every speech he gave.  Congressman Jack kept his promise by securing $3 million of federal funding for us to complete Thomaston’s Pedestrian Safety Downtown Redesign Project.”

Upson County Commission Chairman Dan Brue said, “Congressman Brian Jack has always been there for me, and he’s been there for Upson County throughout his first term in Congress.  The $3 million investment he delivered for our community will keep our families and children safe, as they enjoy the wonderful restaurants and small businesses Thomaston has to offer.”

“Congressman Jack’s $3 million in funding will help bring critically needed Pedestrian Safety and Streetscape Improvements to Downtown Thomaston,” said City of Thomaston Economic Development Director Taylor Smith.  “This investment will deliver much-needed enhancements, address existing walkability and connectivity issues, improve overall functionality of the roadways, and prioritize pedestrian safety. We are deeply grateful to Congressman Jack and his entire staff for hearing our concerns and delivering for our community!”
