SPALDING COUNTY, GA – Today, Congressman Brian Jack (GA-03) welcomed Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones and the United States Under Secretary of Transportation Ryan McCormack to Spalding County, and delivered remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Griffin-Spalding Regional Airport, a landmark aviation infrastructure project that will bring significant economic development to Spalding County and Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District.

$83.4 million in funding has been secured thus far, $17.3 million of which is federal funding delivered by Congressman Brian Jack, and his predecessor, Congressman Drew Ferguson.

To date, the project has received the following federal, state, and local funding:

  • $8.5 million from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program
  • $8.8 million from a Congressional Community Project Funding appropriation
  • $47.2 million from the Georgia General Assembly
  • $11.9 million from the Georgia Department of Transportation Airport Aid Development program
  • $7.0 million from a local bond

Congressman Brian Jack said, “I am honored to join the wonderful people of Spalding County in celebration of the groundbreaking of the Griffin-Spalding Regional Airport.  This historic achievement was delivered through the collaboration of federal, state, and local stakeholders, and its construction will create jobs and grow the economy across Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District.  Thank you to the Under Secretary of Transportation Ryan McCormack and Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones for participating in our ceremony today!”

United States Under Secretary of Transportation Ryan McCormack said, “Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Duffy, we are building again.  The Griffin-Spalding project showcases how all levels of government – local, state, and federal – can work together to achieve great results.  I especially want to thank Congressman Brian Jack for his leadership in bringing us all here to this groundbreaking – a pivotal moment that will unlock new opportunities for Spalding County.”

Georgia Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones said, “I want to thank my friend, Congressman Brian Jack, for inviting me to join today.  I was proud to secure funding to ensure this project moved forward.  This groundbreaking ceremony is critical to driving economic and aviation growth for the local community, region and our entire state.  Investments in infrastructure like this further our commitment to keep Georgia growing, prospering and the number one state in which to do business.”

Griffin-Spalding Regional Airport Chairman Randy Peters said, “This is a very exciting day for the Airport Authority.  This has been a long time coming and today is the first real day that demonstrates what progress has been made.  When the Griffin-Spalding County Area Regional Airport opens, I predict this will be the goose that lays the golden egg for economic development in this region of Georgia.”

The Griffin-Spalding Regional Airport will be the first new airport in the State of Georgia since 2008.  The facility will extend across 500 acres and feature a 5,000-foot runway, which can host large-scale planes and substantially increase the amount of aviation operations in Spalding County.

Congressman Jack represents Georgia's 3rd Congressional District, which includes all of Spalding County.  If Congressman Jack may be of service to you and your family, please visit jack.house.gov.
